NATURE CONTEXT
My work is dominated by reflections on the passage of time, the inevitability of change, beauty and ugliness, the sense of security, meaning, and the search for personal balance. I eagerly observe decay, searching with a researcher’s curiosity for unobvious beauty and meaning in the fact of transience. There is also a constant delight in the world, in what is material, tangible, what we can experience.
My initial explorations of imaging and analyzing the body through its destruction have, over time, evolved into peering into its depths—observing its structure, functioning, and anatomy. I dissect them: form before color, content before form. Density, touch, haptics.
The works presented in the „Materials” series are a reflection on what gives us a sense of (apparent) security. It arose from inspiration by Joseph Beuys and his story of felt and fat, which I took as a pretext to look more closely and delve deeper into the structure of wool, rags, various fabrics, and materials, to imbue them with a trace of human presence through the painting process. These works are like close-up frames that burst the format, swelling and expanding outward.
